About Indian Runner Ducks
- We no longer offer Indian Runner ducklings or adults, but we thought we'd leave this information about this funny breed for those looking to be entertained.
- Indian Runners are very popular and add spice to any duck collection. They are quite amusing to watch due to their upright body carriage. It's hard not to smile when you see a runner, some say they look like a bowling pin or wine bottle with legs!
- Indian Runners are very active foragers and will clean up your pesky insects, slugs, snails, mosquito larvae, weed seeds, and more from your yard.
- They also are one of the best egg layers of the duck breeds, laying anywhere from 200 to 300 eggs per year. The eggs are good for eating or hatching.
- Indian Runners originated from the Far East and ancient hieroglyphics suggest Runner ducks have been around for more than 2,000 years.
- Our breeding stock come from excellent genetic lines. Adults weigh 4 to 4.5 pounds. Runners typically hold their body at 45 to 75 degrees while relaxed and foraging, however, when startled or standing at attention they should nearly stand straight up and down. Runners posses a wedge-shaped head and bill and have a long, slim, straight neck.
